You Can’t Ask That
Lately the ABC has been showing the highly interesting You Can’t Ask That documentaries. The one I tuned into last week was Ex-Prisoners, and it has stuck with me. The thing that stood out to me was the mention of literacy, or lack there of. Is it possible, that those of us who are literate, take it for granted how to participate in a society that requires good literacy to be productive community members? I wonder how different circumstances would be if being illiterate was not in existence with regard to the comments made by the ex-prisoners. Would some not have made it to prison?
